Collaborative Learning Active Workspaces (CLAW) Institute is a new, semester-long community of practice designed specifically for instructors. This innovative learning opportunity is designed to empower educators with the skills and knowledge necessary to transform their teaching practices. Our comprehensive course will equip participants with the ability to design and implement active learning strategies that foster student engagement, critical thinking, and collaboration. By integrating available technology, we aim to enhance these processes and create a dynamic learning environment.
The CLAW Institute cohort will progress through the Canvas course together, fostering a sense of community and shared learning. The program includes two in-person meetings and three virtual meetings, providing ample opportunities to build a dynamic community of practice. Participants will also have the chance to observe and receive feedback from their UNT colleagues, further enriching their learning experience.

The CLAW Institute is a facilitated learning community lasting one semester in duration and is offered to UNT faculty every fall and spring semesters. Faculty can only enroll in one professional development institute per academic year (CETO, GAIT, OCAI, CLAW, or ACUE).
Participants who receive a score of 80% or higher will receive a $750 professional development stipend which will be sent to departments upon completion of the course, in addition to earning a CLAW Institute certificate and badge.
How is the CLAW Institute Course delivered and organized?
The course is delivered over five modules through asynchronous online content with biweekly synchronous in-person and virtual meetings. All reading content and materials are provided through Canvas.

How do I enroll in the CLAW Institute?
To enroll in the CLAW Institute, you will need to apply. The application process will begin at the end of each preceding semester. For example, applications will open in November to be considered for the Spring semester. To apply, complete an application in its entirety and include your department chair’s signature. There will be a limited number of seats each semester. Applicants will be notified at the end of the preceding semester of their acceptance and enrollment.
