Our 8 Commitments

The following eight commitments reflect the strategic activities and future directions for the Division of Digital Strategy & Innovation and the University of North Texas in the area of Digital Strategy. Each commitment is essential to creating resiliency and ensuring that UNT maintains its position as a world-class 21st century institution.

UNT DSI will:

  • Connection to UNT Strategic Plan: Student Empowerment and Transformation Expand/develop inclusion and student success practices and policies What we have done: Ongoing commitment to the DSI Diversity Action Committee (DAC) Co-created Diversity Essentials course on Coursera Expanded process for recruitment and employment to include historically excluded backgrounds Created numerous DSI digital properties and approved 750+ online courses for ADA/508 compliance since 2019 Created campus accessibility training Implemented a student accessibility advisory committee What we need to do next: Launch inclusive curriculum Lunch & Learn series Intentional programs and activities to connect DSI supervisors across teams Involve new DAC Ally group Actively promote accessibility resources and trainings

  • Connection to UNT Strategic Plan: People and Processes Increase enrollment at the Denton and Frisco campuses What we have done: Ongoing collaboration with the campus Digital Strategy Advisory Committee Enhanced service provision through expansion of the organization and creation of cross-divisional teams Conducted comprehensive compliance reviews of all approved online courses including Quality Matters, accessibility and copyright Solidified course intake process and creation of Course-In-a-Box Plus (CIB+) with integration of multimedia Integrated Google into UNT Online BAAS Achieved a 4.8/5 learner satisfaction score for UNT on Coursera What we need to do next: Optimize PHOI© Program Health and Opportunity Index Integration of additional industry-relevant content (e.g. Google) Further promote services to increase rate of faculty collaboration and creation of engaging course content

  • Connection to UNT Strategic Plan: Scholarly Activity and Innovation Expand resources and revise procedures to facilitate innovation at UNT What we have done: Tested (Engagli and Harmonize) and implemented (Canvas Studio and Mursion) new information and learning technologies UNT Approved Learning Technologies site Transformation and modernization of digital communications and infrastructure, refreshing and expanding wireless access and strength of network Further growth of our campus Zoom service What we need to do next: Expand and refresh wireless and networking infrastructure Explore new pathways in digital communication to raise student and faculty engagement Develop new processes to facilitate cross-collaboration and project tracking

  • Connection to UNT Strategic Plan: People and Process Decrease time to graduation, and increase and improve services to aid at-risk, underrepresented, transfer, non-traditional, veteran, online, and working students What we have done: Consulted on market potential and growth strategies for online programs by analyzing new markets and career ROI Continued to grow and maintain UNT Online portal Collaborated across UNT to optimize a program-level prospect nurturing strategy Worked across academic colleges to build unique new credit and non-credit pathways for students (e.g. MOOCs and Toyota collaborative curriculum) Launched fully online Bachelor's of Science in General Business degree with the G. Brint Ryan College of Business and Coursera Forged new strategic corporate partnerships with American Airlines, Toyota, Merit America, and Google What we need to do next: Grow outside of DFW Import and optimize the Professional Development Experience (PDX) Continue to build new industry partnerships

  • Connection to UNT Strategic Plan: Student Empowerment and Transformation Increase best practice curricular experiences for students What we have done: Implemented the taxonomy: Collaborative Learning and Active Workspaces (CLAW) Managed the progress of the campus Learning Spaces Strategy Committee Distributed Distance Learning Kits to enhance learning experience Design, build and support 29 advanced multimedia classrooms Deployed 175 high-quality video displays Added enhanced classroom safety features in collaboration with UNT Police Department What we need to do next: Build and provide training on andragogical approaches for active and collaborative teaching and learning in CLAW spaces Work with LSSC to ensure that technology strategy continues to support UNT’s enrollment growth Continue augmenting the technologies and capabilities of numerous classrooms

  • Connection to UNT Strategic Plan: Scholarly Activity and Innovation Expand resources and revise procedures to facilitate innovation at UNT What we have done: Maintain cis.unt.edu – a database to bring together multiple facilities and scheduling information hubs on UNT physical space Creation of Online Class and Program Approval System (OCPAS) Enhanced API to bring EMSI data to all online.unt.edu program pages and for customized reports to our academic units Expanding access to Labor Market Analyst portal Partnered with Coursera to enhance learning analytics tools that will provide real-time learning outcomes data Co-created the new UNT cost calculator to provide accurate cost information to students What we need to do next: Create a dashboard for Canvas learning analytics Connect UNT analytics engines to power a retention dashboard Design efficient information dissemination and data visualization structures in support of all units represented across UNT IT
